Types of Scams to Watch Out For

Fraud and Scams have become more frequent over the years. Because of this, keeping a close eye on the types of scams that are out there will help keep your financial accounts safe. Read on to learn about the types of scams and fraud that are circulating.

Grandparent Scam – People who commit fraud can claim their victims by pretending to be their grandchildren. They can use different voiceovers to sound like loved ones and use information about their victims to get close enough to get money from them.

Government Imposter Scam – Scammers can pretend to be law enforcement, IRS Agents, Social Security Administration, or other government workers to scare you into giving them information or money. It is important to remember that these workers won’t normally call you for this information.

Lottery Scams – Fraudsters can pretend to be from companies that say you won the lottery and ask for your information to send the money to. They then can use this information to steal from you.

Charity Scams – Sadly, individuals will impersonate credible charitable organizations to try and scam money out of unsuspecting victims.

Tech Support Scams – Scammers can lie and claim to be sent from major tech companies and can allege that your device was hacked and ask to gain remote access to fix it. Once in your device, they can gain access to the information stored in it.

Romance Scams – Fraudsters can trick vulnerable people into thinking they are in a relationship. They can use this closeness to get money from their victims.

Social Media Scams – Someone can reach out to you asking you to fill out a review or survey through your social media accounts. After doing this, they claim to send you money after filling these surveys out, but steal your information instead.

Account Takeover Scams – Fraudsters will trick you by reaching out to you saying they’re from your financial institution and that your account was hacked. After that, they can get your account number from you and hack into your account.

Cash App Scams – Scammers will try to reach out saying that you can win money through your Cash App account and give you a link to claim it. That link tends to access your account and they can send money to themselves.

Elder Financial Abuse – Elder abuse is a common scam that occurs within financial accounts. Someone who is close to the victim can try and access their accounts. It is important to remember that if anyone has access to your accounts, to keep a close eye on unfamiliar charges or new accounts opened under your name.

These are just some of the most common scams that are out there. There are hundreds more that are affecting people’s accounts every day. It is important to remember to keep a close eye on your financial accounts. When you are doing that, it is easier to see fraudulent activity occurring.
